Jagdishpur is a sub-division of a district in Bihar. The town under the Bhojpur district has actively participated in the Sepoy Rebellion of 1857. Today it is one of the fast developing towns of Bihar and has the basic infrastructure to meet the expectations of the residents.History of Jagdishpur
Jagdishpur was also among the flagbearer of the rebellion of 1857. The region under Veer Kunwar Singh revolted against East India Company in 1857. Kunwar Singh was born in 1777 and succeeded to the throne in 1826. An able administrator he was instrumental in ensuring the well being of his people. He played a very prominent role in the rebellion of1857and participated in the battle of Kanpur. During his return flight to his hometown, he was severely injured by a bullet shot in his right hand. The injury was very critical because of which he had to cut is right hand off. Thus, he lost his right hand during his battle against the British. Nevertheless, nothing stopped him from conquering back his own territory and on 23 April 1858, he finally conquered his fort and raised the flag of India in the place of the flag of Britain. Even today, on 23 April is celebrated with great joy and respect in Jagdishpur as a mark of respect to this famous ruler of Jagdishpur.Geography of Jagdishpur
